If I make an ass out of myself on the internet and attack a somewhat loved video game company… I can get a group of hot Asian girls to follow me around?
He thinks he can get a multi-million dollar corporation and the top head of the videogame world to let him put his game on their system by harassing the employees at one of their stores in New York?
I don’t get him.
Maybe Nintendo would pick up this game if it wasn’t an uninteresting-looking piece of game-maker trash made by a scary-looking guy.
And he thinks that Nintendo is going to publish his game since he talked smack about them and threatened them. Sorry, but who taught you how to be polite?
Before it comes up (for the record,) Will broke radio silence on the Bob front, not I!
In any case, this is interesting but inconclusive. It can add evidence to either the down-on-his-luck independent guy theory, or the “really elaborate viral campaign” theory.
I’m sorry, but he’s going about this situation completely wrong. The protest, faking his death and now harassing sales people is the not the way to get your game made. It seems like his tactics are becoming more and more extreme and it’s starting to get dangerous.
In the video you can hear the sales people asking him to leave, yet he refuses to listen and continues to vandalize the store. Then you can hear sirens at the end, which I’m assuming means the cops were called.
I think the right way to get this game published would have been to continue to followup with Nintendo. Nintendo isn’t going to support this guy, because it’d send a message that anyone who follows Bob’s actions is going to be given a SDK. It also would give Nintendo bad press.
He could also sit on the game and build a reputation on another platform. Once his company gets recognized he’d have more leverage when approaching Nintendo.
“Either way, you’re sick of reading about it and i’m sick of writing about it – until a real announcement or statement from Nintendo is released, Bob won’t be getting my attention from here on out.”
@ Will, Sean: Actually, _I_ missed the memo; that was Sean who said that, not you. And he even stated it earlier in the comments. Man…I’m having some trouble reading today, haha.
But yeah…..we’re putting the cover sheets on ALL TPS reports before they go out…
And I’m divided on Bob’s Game. I think the man is clearly shooting himself in the foot, but I don’t understand why he isn’t allowed to release his game. The fact that so many shitty Ubisoft games get published while this guy, who’s apparently wasted a LOT of time on this, can’t get his published is…saddening.
If the game was any good it would have been picked up by now. Nintendo isn’t stupid and they could have used the viral energy this guy has. I bet the game blows.
Instead of being a dick about it, he should put out a demo version of the game as freeware on the computer and see if it gets hot. Then he could sell it online and maybe, maybe Nintendo will take notice.
Hey bob: Life is hard and you’re not special, despite your crappy haircut. Pay your dues like the rest of us.
The way he’s going about promoting his game, it just makes me want to support him less. It’s really obnoxious. Like McClain142 said, if the game was any good, it would’ve been picked up by now. From what I’ve seen of the game, it’s nothing mind blowing.
I don’t know if any of you have noticed, but this whole thing as been a promotion for his game, or at least a stunt in order to get Nintendo to approve the game. Just check out the 2009-01-15 post on bob game’s site, it pretty much explains everything.
He isn’t insane. This stunt of his seems to have been approved by Nintendo, not to convince them to give him the SDK.
There are a few features in Bob’s Game that entire companies don’t do for some reason.
-adjustable walking speed
-run really fast to get around town, saving player’s time
-randomly generated crowds interacting w/ each other and Yuu
-no loading time going from outdoors to indoors
-smooth transition between rooms, Yuu doesn’t (don’t?) just disappear
-200 characters to communicate with
Doesn’t justify what he did at Nintendo World Store. But the industry could learn a thing or two from Bob’s Game, especially on loading time and room transition.
I wonder if N sees this as a threat to the Animal Crossing franchise with 200 characters with their own stories to communicate with.
Goddamn, if he wants people to play his game so bad he should just put it on pc, or pitch it to a publisher so they can help him get what he needs. Nintendo has never given dev kits to individuals it’s nothing new.
This is pretty badly managed, even for a viral campaign. It’s not really putting out much of a message, other than ‘Nintendo is heartless and I am a scrappy go-getter with everything to prove!’
What this really looks like, to someone who hasn’t paid much attention to it in general, is THE FREAKIN’ PLOT TO ‘THE MIGHTY DUCKS.’
Bob = Anaheim’s favorite teenage misfits (and with that…hair? I guess you could call it? He fits the ‘misfit’ category), Nintendo = Iceland’s best (complete with flowing hair and a dark allure!)
i simply do not understand nintendo
nintendo allows some real crap on their systems, and out of tens of millions of ds owners, i am sure some one is going to buy bob’s game
Man. I’m not gonna buy a game made by the Joker’s evil twin. EVIL twin. Which isn’t even possible. He looks weird too. But the girls in his posse are okay.
And naturally; some posters took the whole thing as: “Nintendo sent a message saying that you cannot get developer status with one person creating a game alone.” Even those the official release states nothing like that at all.
And it’s clear why Pellion got denied right from the start: He doesn’t present a legit business plan, he fakes his own death, he get raided by the police (and I’m not sure if that was a fake or not), he acts like a freakin lunatic when Nintendo doesn’t respond quickly and he projects himself as a talented “artist”. This Youtube video is actually pretty lightweight in comparison. The guy is someone I would NEVER do business with at ANY COST because he has utter contempt for it! And if you have utter contempt for business; then he should go work as a slave worker for a 711 or something. At least he can release the thing as a homebrew game now; because that’s as close as he is going to get.
If anything; Pellion is a disgrace to developers like 2D Boy who had only two people work on World Of Goo; presented a stable business plan and made money on WiiWare as a developer. It’s sad their publisher went out of business; but that’s the publisher’s fault for not presenting a stable business plan to make profit; it’s not 2D Boy’s fault. They made profit and I’m sure can find a more stable publisher (I didn’t know 2D Boy even had a publisher to being with to be perfectly honest with you.). I hope Pellion’s stroking of ego was worth it for him.

I’m surprised that he did this. I still want to play his game because I think it looks and sounds great! The asian girls were cute.
