Kids—piracy is wrong, and it’ll cost you if you’re caught, as one 24-year old gamer discovered this week.
Reports the AFP, “An Australian man has agreed to pay Nintendo 1.3 million US dollars for illegally uploading New Super Mario Bros. Wii to the Internet six days before its global release, the firm said Tuesday.”
How’d they catch ‘em? “Computer forensics experts,” arrrrrrrrr!

My opinion is that he got off lucky, Nintendo lost far more than 1.3 million due to him.

That’s why you don’t upload, just download.

He agreed to pay it?! Not a lot of 24 year olds have 1.3 million to pay a settlement like that. I wonder what the terms of the payment are, the article didn’t say. I’d imagine it would have to be spread out over a looooong time, unless the kid is incredibly loaded.

Maybe all those folks who *cough* acquired it early should have a whip round for him…

I like how Nintendo thinks that being a douche bag to their fans is going to help their reputation.
