Simply put, the DS is getting incredibly popular BUT you should also keep in mind that in a house where there could be 1 PS2, there could easily be 2 or even 3 DS systems because it's an individual system whereas the PS2 is meant to be shared. And being the greedy people we are, if they can truly expand to the general audience as well as the hardcore that's gonna end up being a massive sales number. I’m sure it WILL outsell the PS2 (though it’s still a long way off).

The same is true of the colored Wiis, though for the Wii I'd want a nice deep cobalt blue rather than a black one. Unless someone makes fake woodgrain decals for it like they did for the DSL. The new colors on the phat probably didn't entice too many people to replace their DS, but I think a significant number of DS owners went out and bought a lite to replace their phat.
