Wii Remote finishes second in battery face-off

I was tasked with comparing Wii, 360, and PS3 battery performance for a GamePro feature that was published today. I say tasked because it was required that I played more than 110 hours of video games in a short period of time, the most I’ve ever played since high school. But I digress, the Wii Remote lasted longer than expected, and as you know, is highly customizable for even better performance. Check it.

I would like to know how the Wii Remote changes battery performance with the use of the Nunchuck, and Classic Controller.

I think at the very least that they should have separate data points for the Nunchuck.

I changed my batteries a couple of times playing Twilight Princess, and Metriod Prim 3. I bought the Nyko charge station, so we’ll see how that handles Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers.

Yeah, was this using the nunchuck?

Also, how bad must the PS3 controller be that actually has rumble?

Kudos to the 360s, thems some solid numbers. I electronics that are well designed to conserve power.

Oh, and Blake, I know its been said on here before, but when you do a chart that only tracks 2 variables (axis) like a bar graph, its not a good idea to force it into 3D, it makes it much harder to read.

wow- my 36- runs through batteries like there’s no tomorrow. never thought it would come out on top- thought nintendo would take that crown. but the ps3? really? i mean, really? that bad?

Interesting, I don’t think the emphasized just how wildly battery usage differs between games though. They’d last a damn long time with just vc games, but anything that uses the pointer suck em up fairly quick.

Weird, I recharge my 360 batteries way, way more often than my Wii ones.

Assuming that I charge every controller after play and they are fully charged, I never ran out of battery with my Wiimotes, occasionally with my 360 controller, and often with my Sixaxis.

I have a hard time believing this is accurate. My Wii remote batteries go dead FAST. Even if it isn’t being used they’ll go dead quickly. I don’t quite understand that, but it is true.

My PS3 remotes stay charged for a LONG time. I’ve had PS2 for over a month and only charged them a couple of times–and they weren’t even completely run down.

I’m not sure how accurate this is. Nor do I care, really. Battery life isn’t that big of a deal to me.

Oops. I meant to saw “PS3″ instead of “PS2″ above. You get my drift. :-)

I am surprised the Wii remote performed as well as it did.

Nyko Charge Station FTW, by the way. AA batteries are so 1999. :)

Dude, I really can’t trust the Wiimote with batteries. I bought some Lithium batteries for them because I figured they would last a long time. They literally died in a day and a half. wtf? Other batteries worked fine before…
