Nintendo dominates NPD numbers… again

Nintendo NPD February

First of all, thanks to the Infendo readers that handed me my hat, ass and ego last night in Brawl. A few of you have some skillz, that’s for sure. Additionally, I officially feel pity for those of you who lost to “JBLFT” (David, my friend, I’m looking at you!). Also, is it so wrong that I love the Ice Climbers?

Anyway, since I’m pretty Brawled out, I thought the morning would do well with the infamous NPD numbers. If you’re a fan of Nintendo, prepare for more of the same (HONESTLY, who is left to buy all these hundreds of thousands of DS’s anymore?!) …

PRESS RELEASE (NINTENDO) — The latest video game industry sales figures reported by the independent NPD Group show that Nintendo DS™ and Wii™ topped the U.S. charts for February. Nintendo DS sold nearly 587,600 units and Wii sold nearly 432,000.

“Our momentum has not let up since the holidays and we expect it to continue throughout the year,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We have the industry’s strongest lineup of games for everyone from core to casual gamers.”

February sales, according to NPD, in the United States:

  • Nintendo sold more than 1 million hardware units combined, accounting for nearly half (47.6 percent) of all hardware sold.
  • Nintendo DS games topped all software sales, with more than 3.6 million units sold. Consumers purchased nearly 2.9 million software units for Wii. Four of every 10 games sold were for Nintendo systems.
  • Three games in the top five sellers for February play on Nintendo systems, including two from third-party publishers.
  • Nearly 1.7 million accessories were purchased for Wii, more than for any other system. More than 1.2 million accessories were sold for Nintendo DS as well.

On a personal note, I’m glad that Nintendo hasn’t shown too much arrogance as the industry leader right now. They sell more units, which is a fact, and they state it as such. If you compare this release to the other two press releases that went out yesterday, and believe you me I have, Nintendo’s is lean, mean and gets to the point. That top 5 third party point was interesting too.

haha this reminds me of the whole super smash bros. melee being nintendo’s top seller every month for like three years - towards the end of it’s reign everybody was like “WHO IS STILL BUYING THIS GAME?”

Where is the original information link? I’d like to see where the quotes are coming from.

Yeah, the surprising thing is that there are still people out there who don’t own AT LEAST one DS…

Maybe these are people who are buying a second or third DS just because they want a new color?

I don’t own a DS… *looks around in fear* Since I work at home, I don’t really see a point of owning a handheld, as opposed to my school days, when I had my trusted Game Boy with me at all times.

No one added me!!! What is up? I plugged in like 23 friend codes last night. BRIZZ and WHIS were the only two. What of?

Roddy, do you like watching commercials? If you’re answer is no that’s what the DS is for. If not, well…

  8. Roddy says...

Well, gametaku, right now I barely have time for my Wii. With a 2 year old on my trail at all times, it’s a relief when I even have time to watch TV! :P
