Today marks the 17th Birthday of Sonic the Hedgehog, once a bitter rival of our good pal Mario, now a good friend to him and everyone a part of Nintendo. Here at Infendo we’d like to wish our Blue Hedgehog friend a Happy Birthday and may the great good games keep coming! Let us all take a moment and wish our friend a happy birthday, and share our fondest memories of him with each other.

FIRST COMMENT! Yes, I hit the mark! Happy B-day Sonic, let the 20th anniversary roll around and give us a decent game to kick off the end of these next-gen consoles! (I hope.)

Happy B-Day! to Sonic!! One of his best games ever made to me was Sonic & Knuckles. Especially when you locked on Sonic 3 to Sonic 3 to Sonic & Knuckles to truly experience the FINAL chapter in the Death Egg Saga. Can’t wait to see how Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Chronicles turn out. Go my blue blur friend!

Happy Birthday, you blue blur! While your console titles have been a bit… lacking as of late (but looking up since Secret Rings, Mario and Sonic, and Brawl) your handheld titles are still better than even Mario’s!
Rush on brotha, Rush on. ; )

Sonic the Hedgehog….the first game I remember playing (almost) 17 years ago.

@ Cory: Actually bro, Sonic 1st appeared on the Sega Master System an 8 Bit Sega system back in the days of the NES. It was the Sonic The Hedgehog 1 game that appeared on Game Gear also.

Considering there hasn’t been a decent Sonic game for eons, I have almost no respect for Sonic. So I shall not be participating in any birthday celebrations whatsoever.
Not to sound like a jerk… I just haven’t felt the same about Sonic since the threat of him appearing in Brawl appeared… and then materialized. I’m just glad his presence wasn’t as invasive as I was worried about. I mean, I used to be a huge Sonic fan, I watched the cartoons and read the comic books…

I know I’m going to catch a lot of flack for this, but honestly, I wish they’d stop bothering to make Sonic games. I downloaded the original on Virtual Console recently (to refresh my memory) and realized how bad that game really was. Strange, because I remember kind of liking it when I was much younger (but it was nothing compared to Mario and Mega Man titles).
So to the people who keep complaining that his new games aren’t any good (true), you should probably realize that his old games weren’t really good, either.
*dodges tomatoes*
Still, I look forward to seeing if the new Sonic in the works is going to be any good. I hope, for the fans’ sake, that it is.

I agree, Andrew; the originals were fun, but I honestly think they’re so popular due to nostalgia, not quality. Sonic 3 was the best in my opinion, and it still was just a ‘good’ game to me. But, to each his own.
@WII-LUIGI$: Um, I think Cory meant that Sonic 1 was the first game that he ever played (or remembers ever playing). I could be mistaken, but that’s what it sounds like to me.

Happy B-day Sonic…..We can only hope your next game is an improvement on the last.

@ Wii-Luigi
The first game in the franchise was released on June 23, 1991 in order to provide Sega with a mascot to rival Nintendo’s flagship character Mario (see 1991 in video gaming).
It is the inaugural game in Sega’s flagship Sonic the Hedgehog video game series, and was the first title developed by Sonic Team. It was first released on June 23, 1991 in North America, and the same day in Europe. The Japanese Mega Drive version was released on July 26, 1991.
The series began in 1991 with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, in addition to an 8-bit version of the game for the Master System and Game Gear formats.

Happy Belated, Sonic! I remember renting a Genesis and your first adventure for a New Year’s Eve party in 1991!

Happy Belated Birthday as well, Sonic!
Even though I grew up hating you with a vengeance, because you were the arch-enemy of Nintendo back then, I’m glad you chose to come over to the correct side!
Hopefully Sonic Chronicles and Sonic Unleashed will rock!

Man, I still remember that awesome commercial for the first Sonic game back in 1991 as a mere 1st grader. That was the first time I paid attention to the Sega Genesis.

no one is a bigger Sonic fan than I am. I love Sonic. let that be etched in on a giant Mack Truck chasing Sonic through some Mystic Caves while fighting a boss.
