A gamers Super Bowl – E3

There aren’t many events out there for your average gamer when compared to the daily highlights and live games for sports fans. But there is one day out of the year when gamers gather to watch…not a game, nor a sports highlight, but a…Press conference?!
True. The press always finds the fans “geeked-out” and simply can’t comprehend why we get so excited for a short 45 minute press conference. They don’t understand the exhilaration of Reggie pulling a new handheld out of his coat pocket, or Miyamoto holding up a replica master sword while standing in front of a 20 second trailer for a game that wont come out for another 2 years. There’s something about E3 that no Comic-con, GDC, or any other expo has. Maybe it’s the huge fanbase making pinpoint pre-E3 guesses. Maybe it’s the tension between rival competitors. I like to think it’s seeing our favorite game developers gathered on one stage.
Just some thoughts I wanted to write down. Not trying to get carried away with E3, but I know this is a big deal for all of us.
This is our Super Bowl.

Really good article Jake!
It is like a super bowl in the fact that loads of gamers will be glued to their screens to watch this video gaming event.

From someone who’s been to E3 while working in the industry… the Superbowl is still my Superbowl. E3 was and seemingly will be again, way overblown. Great place to lose your hearing though.

“Are you ready to rumble???”
(Yes, I know that it’s not a Super Bowl quote.)
I just can’t wait! Less than 5 days to go.
I really wish I could get into E3 – that would be amazing!

It’s nice to have E3 to look forward to because we have a hobby and passion that keeps the heart and imagination young.
