Some very angry birds have appeared on the Wii, but they’re not the iVariety many of us have sent flying into a porcine stronghold.  Originally appearing as a flash game in 2007, chick chick BOOM was released for WiiWare in the US on December 27, 2010. It is a turn-based artillery title along the lines of Worms or Scorched Earth, supports 1 – 4 players, and is available for 800 Wii Points.

After putting the single player and multiplayer modes through their paces, I can report that chick chick BOOM is more than just a clever name with cute characters and a snappy presentation (though it is all of those things, too). I found it to be an entertaining diversion and if you like to get together with friends for multiplayer warfare, this is one WiiWare title you should consider checking out.

Me? I’m going to a kid-friendly party until 9pm (the time we put ‘em down), and then playing some karaoke with the wife and friends to bring in the new year. What about you?

In their January issue, Nintendo Power compiled a fun list of New Year’s resolutions for your “favorite and not-so-favorite video game characters.” Here are the ones that made me chuckle, if not outright laugh in the case of Starman:

• Pitt: Stop fighting it and legally change his name to Kid Icarus.
• Phoenix Wright: Stop going to Sonic’s barber.
• Shy Guy: Read a few books on self-esteem.
• Samus: Destroy eight more planets and drive at least two more species into extinction in the name of galactic peace.
• Link: Take some classes on public speaking.
• Starman from Pro Wrestling: Cut eyeholes in mask.
• Dog from Duck Hunt: Stop taking pleasure from other people’s misfortunes.
• Kin Corn Darn: Change his nickname from “a living karate tool” to something less insulting.
• Professor Layton: Grow a beard and become the world’s top Abraham Lincoln impersonator.

Pokemon Black and White will be released on March 6th in North America. Is it too late to hope that it’ll have some 3DS exclusive features?

iPhones and similar devices are like electronic Swiss Army knives: They can transform themselves into an amazing variety of tools. They can replace clocks, music players, televisions, radios, carpentry levels and cameras.

What they can’t replace—so far—is a great portable game player.

iPhone excels at puzzle games, word games and novelties. There are a handful of passable RPGs and strategy games. And Skee Ball.

Most titles attempting fuller gameplay are doomed by uncomfortable controls. Screen-tilting and finger-swiping will never be a great way to control a racer. Street Fighter 4 looks amazing, but who wants to play with their thumbs covering the art? (more…)
