This is actually a pretty amazing week for a Summer release date. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box is awesome. Metroid Prime Trilogy is guaranteed awesome. Super Empire Strikes Back is virtually awesome. And Cursed Mountain at the very least has an awesome title. Check on in for more new games and DLC for Rock Band & Guitar Hero.

It won’t be in HD when it’s released this November. But thankfully for Wii owners, the delayed port of Call of Duty 4 “certainly captures the feel of the original Modern Warfare,” says Kotaku’s Brian Crecente, after seeing the game live. “Everything that was in Modern Warfare is in here,” the game’s producer added. “We have not left anything out, it’s undiluted. All of the single (and multi) player maps down to the number of AI are here.” Get clicky for a better idea of what to expect from the gameplay.

One of Nintendo’s new IPs for this year is Fossil Fighters for the Nintendo DS. A game which mixes what made Pokemon great with the trilling and exciting world of being an archaeologist. Eh… if you can consider archeology to be a very exciting topic. Either way the game is something new and something old all in one, come join me on Vivosaur Island to find out what Fossil Fighters is all about.
It’s no mystery, I absolutely loved the first Professor Layton game. All the stories about new Layton games and movies in Japan make me green with envy. But finally, I have Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box in my hands and further in love with these games I fall!
If you played the first game and liked it at all, buy this sequel. If you haven’t played the first, you can actually get the new one and enjoy it just fine. There are some references to the first game, but you won’t be terribly lost on the overall story. The puzzles, though, are all outstanding and it feels like sound, music, graphics, and menus have all been enhanced for this edition. Even the manual contains a physical puzzle. They took something great and made it superb.

Secondly, once a game is in your possession, what specific things does it need to do to hold your attention, keep you interested, or make you smile? As we last left off in the Tales of Monkey Island; lots of pirating went down on Flotsam Island and Guybrush now has a new ship called the Screaming Narwahl. He’s a man with a mission, as not only does he have to rescue his wife Elaine from the clutches of the evil pirate LeChuck, but he has to find a legendary sponge to cleanse him of an evil voodoo pox. As This pox was released during a misfortune substitution of voodoo ingredients during the last heated battle with his nemesis.
As you would expect with any episodic game you start off exactly where you left off at the end of the Launch of the Screaming Narwahl. With a sword to Treepwood’s throat and questions to why it is there. (more…)
Although it should come as no surprise that the Wii port of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will lack some graphical depth in comparison with the 360, ps3, and PC counterparts, someone at Activision must be worried about it. Joystiq’s Justin McElroy noticed some apparent photoshop work in recently released screenshots. An added enemy corpse here, an unrealistically rendered plume of smoke there, and… well, you have a few screenshots that really don’t look any better, and leave us puzzled.
Activision’s motives for these apparent hack-jobs are unclear, but hopefully they’ll drop whatever angle they are on now and just focus on giving us a solid port of COD4 with a decent framerate and graphics somewhat comparable to playing the PC version on lowest settings.
