Nintendo says “More VC games on the Way”

The Nintendo news scene went a bit wild after a reported “Nintendo Rep” said that Nintendo was going to focus on WiiWare and push away from the Virtual Console.
That did not please a lot of Nintendo fans as soon after their was a rebuttal by almost everyone. Fans going so far as to try and rock twitter with a #SaveWiiVirtualConsole hash tag. However, Nintendo heard about the rumor and has posted a response to it saying that…
Each week Nintendo makes available a mix of Virtual Console, WiiWare and Nintendo DSiWare games. Combined, these services currently provide gamers with hundreds of fun and interesting downloadable games to choose from. There is no preset schedule as to how many games will become available in a given week, but many more are on the way via all of these digital delivery systems. – Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America’s senior director of public relations
That’s a nice statement and all, but when are we going to see some new Virtual Console games?

“Hey VC fans, I’ve got some great news! We’ve got loads of Wiiware games that you don’t care about!”
Uuuummm?

Good…now how about Atari 2600, Intellivision, or Colecovision/Adam games on Virtual Console?

I for one support WiiWare more than VC, just my cup of tea.

I am still waiting on Uniracers (SNES).

I don’t think I have any Wiiware games, but I have about a dozen virtual console games. I guess I’m just big on the nostalgia factor.

And YES, Uniracers would rock. I remember that was a title they “announced” before the Wii was even released, but where is it?
In my dream scenario, they enhance it with a create-your-own-tracks mode, and online multiplayer.

WiiWare is great and all…sometimes. But the truth is, there are sooooo many good games that haven’t even been put on Virtual Console yet (which bugs me to no end) and it pains me to see the service neglected. I get excited for Mondays, but I don’t know why; more often than not, the VC selection is a total letdown.

A twitter petition is possibly the dumbest thing the internet has ever created. And they’ll think they’ve done something because Nintendo’s PR guy simply clarified their leaning towards WiiWare does not mean the complete elimination of Virtual Console.
What a world.

It would be sweet if they would just get the VC releases over with. Put up everything that’s available for VC online in one shot, and then highlight a couple of different games (or give a sale price, with a $1 markdown) each week to advertise and boost sales instead of trickling in new games the way they are doing now.
It’s never going to happen, but it would be sweet.

There’s no reason not to put SSB on the VC since EVERYONE ELSE HAS HAD IT A GOOD WHILE NOW!
August 3rd, 2009 at 8:32 am
…wha? I have been waiting for SSB (N64) to hit VC for like forever, what are you nagging about residentialevil? weirdo.

Donkey Kong Arcade… please… thank you.
Other than that… more NES/SNES etc titles please… and what’s the deal with Virtual Arcade anyway? The big announcement in Apr with 5 titles at launch… then they release 2 since then. Where is Nintendo’s arcade games? Super Mario Bros arcade and others would be a welcome addition! C’mon Big N. Don’t you want our money?

@skeptical: The reason that will never happen isn’t because Nintendo doesn’t want it. It’s because they have programmers working all the time to make sure all the games are emulated correctly.
It’s not like they have every game ever made ready to be uploaded to the Shop Channel. They have to make them work first. That’s why we only get a couple each week.
Why they have focused on a lot of the shitty games instead of all the classics is beyond my understanding though. Where’s Earthbound Nintendo? Where’s Super Smash Bros? And why does the Genesis have around twice the amount of games compared to the SNES? I mean, the SNES is Nintendo’s system so you’d expect them to focus more on that than the Genesis. I dunno :S
And it’s pretty neat that they have started to bring over some games that were never released in Europe before, but they should’ve done that from the start.
