Sega announced today that the previously, um, announced Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics would arrive Oct 16 on both Wii and DS. Apparently the game is big in Great Britain, I’m told. That’s all I got.

Fun facts: This game has outsold Gears of War 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS3, Final Fantasy XII, and Halo 1. It is the high selling Sega Published title of ALL TIME and single-handedly (along with the DS version) staved off Sega’s Bankruptcy in 2007. It is also the 2nd Highest Title with Sonic in it, as well as the best selling game with Sonic in the title.
The game is also basically Wii Sports with Mario and Sonic Characters in it, which means it is a solidly built title.
In an ideal, pre-demographics world, Sega would shift all of their development to the Wii and damn both of the money-draining PS3 and 360 to hell as they did it. Hopefully that will be the case in the future, when they see that they are making more money on their Wii titles than anything they’ve ever done on PS360.
But the cynic in me thinks they’ll just skim the money off and fund another PS360 bomb, like most of what they’ve published this whole generation.

Well aren’t we going to be too busy with Wii Sport Resort to be bothered with this cash cow title? But hey, go Mario!!!
