Quick Sketch – New Legend of Zelda Art
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 at 2:54am by Will
At the round table meeting at they showed the artwork for the next Zelda title. We were not allowed to take pictures… but they didn’t say we couldn’t sketch the characters.
Miyamoto said that this artwork was key to the story of the game. However, he didn’t go into the detail of how important it was. It looked to be almost the box art for the game. The new character was blue… and had a midna feeling, but didn’t look like Zelda at all. What do you guys think?

I think this is bullsh*t. People complained that Twilight Princess was too much like Ocarina of Time, but this looks like it’s going to have the exact same art direction! I say bring back child Link to the console Zelda games, or better yet make a entirely different looking Link altogether.

Link is meltiiiiinngggg..
Oh noes.

Looks Zora…

@Poochy : You’re right. Let’s put Link in a space-suit and give him a gun! And get rid of Epona – he needs a tank instread! Oh, and while we’re at it – let’s not even call it Zelda anymore! We need a new name – something that makes people think HARDCORE!
…
Seriously though – what are all you people on? That’s not even the actual image and you’re all getting your panties in a knot. Even if they made the next game EXACTLY like Twilight Princess but with different areas it would still be more amazing than fanboys on the internet could come up with. Complain all you want – but I have faith that regardless of how much it looks or feels like previous games it’s still going to be fantastic. What is this new problem everyone has with sequels that look like sequels?

Yikes, Poochy, you don’t have to get so worked up over a simple pencil drawing. I was more disappointed with Twilight Princess more than most people, but I’m not gonna freak out over nothing…
Oh, and the Metroid Prime games are still amazing.

This looks like the Fairy Queen in Wind Waker.

Well think about it. Each version of Link pretty much has two games. The first is based on saving Zelda (OoT), with the second completely nothing to do with saving the princess (MM).
I’m glad too. While Zelda was beautifully sexy in Twilight Princess, I hope the new game goes in a completely different direction, just like Majoras Mask did.
I wouldnt expect Ganon in the new game either.
Im pumped while sad that all we got was a picture. The team are in the second half of production though, we know that for sure.

I’m thinking it might be a Zora, but Tadashi makes a good point: could be a fairy, too.
Anyway, I can’t wait until the image inevitably makes the rounds, and I can’t wait to learn more about the game, whatever it may be about. It’s Zelda, and even if it’s the very worst Zelda game to ever come out (not that it will be), it’ll still be better than 90% of all of the other games out in stores today.

Whatever she is, she looks like she really has to go to the bathroom.

i will have to reserve judgement on the art style until i really see it for myself. the quick sketch doesn’t really give you anything to go by, also i don’t care what direction they go in. i’ve loved every zelda title (besides 3do, which i don’t count). i’m replaying twilight princess now and like it just as much as the first and second times around. whether they keep ganon in the next one or go towards the majora’s mask route like a side quest i don’t mind as long as the gameplay is good and it feels like zelda.

i know where the concept art is but i cant post the link

Looks like the new Zelda is going to have knobby-knees. That seems like an interesting new direction.

While the center figure vaguely reminds me of the Twili, I’m guessing it will be in a different atmosphere altogether. I’m thinking it will pull a Majora’s Mask as well, and have a very different feel – perhaps without Zelda or Ganondorf. OR, maybe we will learn what happened to the fairies and magic in the TP realm, as it looks vaguely fairy-ish.
Presently, I want to be surprised.

@ Ageman20XX:
You can’t have pegged me more wrong. I am 100% AGAINST the idea of making Zelda hardcore…in fact one of the reasons I think I was never really ever able to get into TP was because I knew the game was created as a response to the retarded WW backlash (And WW was one of the greatest Zelda games in my opinion..).

Zora….
My money is VERY much on Midna
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:36 pm
well seeing as the picture has summit to do with the main story, maybe the female is one of the three goddesses, which one i have no idea
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:41 pm
but then again if they’re “golden” then that probably rules my 20 second theory out, i just hope its not midna, as a twilight princess sequel would be utter tosh

At Poochy:
People complained that the gameplay was too much like OoT, not the art. The gameplay formula is what most people are concerned with.
As for the art, Twilight princess has been my favorite art style, second is Wind Waker’s. I am quite pleased with the surreal look they have going.

@ The Congressman1:
You’re right. TP’s art was good, mostly because it was very nice mixture of surrealism, realism, and anime influence. But methinks the presence of TP’s artstyle means that Nintendo is yet again kneeling to the whims of the same idiotic hardcore crowd that complained about Wind Waker. Which very well could mean that this could be just another Twilight Princess, which to me is no good.

It’s a sailboat.

They’ve released a true image of the artwork: http://www.neowin.net/news/gamers/09/06/05/miyamoto-confirms-new-zelda-game-2010-earliest
Now the article states that people see the girl as an “incarnation of the Master Sword”… I’m wondering how they thought of that.
Am I the *only* person who thinks the girl resembles the Fairy Queen you rescue in the GameCubes Four Swords Adventure?? Or the Fairy Queens in Windwaker for that matter? The hair itself is identical, also she’s blue like the Fairy in FSA and she’s got the “I have no irises or pupils” thing going on.
