Receive 1,000 Nintendo Points when you buy a DSi

Still unsure if the upgrade to the DSi is worth the money? Nintendo has confirmed that new DSi units that connect to the DSi Shop before October 5th, 2009 will be credited 1,000 Nintendo Points to their account. Not a bad way to get the ball rolling for DSiWare.
Which DSiWare titles will be available to download on April 6th? Nothing is set in stone, but IGN strongly suspects WarioWare: Snapped! (500NP), Art Style: Aquia (500NP), and Bird & Beans (200NP) to be available. The DSi Opera browser will also be available for a free download.
What feature pushed you to preorder a DSi? Camera? Music playback? Free Nintendo Points? Comment below!

The opera browser is a good free app, but 200 seems high for Bird Bean.

For a DS Lite upgrade, $170 is too much. What? They’re giving us $10 for free? Sorry, $160 is still too much.

Thanks Nintendo, I would sure use those points.

Sorry, but I do have to disagree with you cephas. I see a lot of potential in the dSi and a lot of value in upgrading to it. The improved Opera Browser, free 1,000 points and official music solution did it for me. The camera is also a nice thing to have that I plan to use. It’s much better than my cell phones camera in the least.
A DS Lite costs $130, a DSi costs $170. For an additional $40 you get the following upgrades to your DS Lite:
2 decent camera’s
a nice handful of software that is to Pictochat what Wii Sports is to Wii Play.
A music player with expandable memory through SDHC cards
Access to the DSiWare store to download games and apps straghht to the DSi with a likely positive rumor of downloadable GBA and other handheld games in addition to original DSi games.
DSi only features accessible in full retail DS Games. (this has huge potential, from something as small as WPA connection use in DS games to basic motion sensing using the camera and expansions and updates to newer DS and dSi games).
Larger screens
better audio
better LED set-up
Brighter Screens
Better power and volume buttons
A suite of free apps that look to be more fun in practice than Pictochat was made to look in advertising.
An upgraded version of Pictochat with colors and other features.
Games with better graphics or more going on in them due to the increased amount of memory, processor speed, and other updates and features of the DSi.
The only negative is the lost of the gBA slot. Current Guitar Hero’s can’t be played on the dSi, but that’s not stopping future ones. They can easily make an improved Guitar grip that connects to the DSi via the SD cards slot, and include another sd card reader and writer on the grip itself.
The rumble was poorly used in the past and made more noise than actual rumble so that’s pretty much worthless. Would’ve been nice if it was integrated into the system.
The memory expansion has been added to the dSi. It’s much faster that way since it’s no longer limited by the speed of the GBA slot.
Taito’s/Ataari’s (I forgot which one) slider can be emulated in future games by using the DSi’s camera or by once again connecting through the SD card slot.
For a $40 difference, that ain’t bad. If you already own a dSi then it is a bit of a ahrder sale. Gamestop is offering a $70 discount of the dSi when you trade in your DS Lite, $50 for a Phat, and $30 for a GBA SP (I think the SP number is wrong). So for dS Phat owners, that’s a dang good deal and upgrade, for a dS Lite owner it’s been dropped to $100 in price. You can even use the promotion to try to get a higher selling rice for your DS Lite on ebay or craigslist to get an even higher discount. I believe that this is a very worthy upgrade and will happily buy my DSi on launch date. It’s already been reserved, I just gotta wait til Sunday to get mine.

An even better deal has arrived. GameCrazy is offering $90 for a DS Lite trade-in towards a DSi. Now I have to actually find one and move my preorder to it.

I’ll get a DSi eventually. I planned on getting one from the moment I heard about it. I pretty much buy nearly all the consoles and handhelds Nintendo releases. But I dooubt I’ll buy one during the free 1,000 points promotion period. If I do, that’s wonderful. However I’m still hoping Nintendo does a virtual handheld thing where they put games on there from the Game Boy and GBC as well as Game Gear and other handhelds from the day. That’s one feature Nintendo needs to do.
