Major League Baseball is right around the corner, so this week we ask:
Which is your favorite 8-bit NES baseball game or series?
Tell us about your favorites in comments!

RBI Baseball, for me. I spent a lot of time with that game. I wish modern baseball games were as simple and addictive as these old ones.

Nice picture choice of Varitek slapping the taste out of A-Roid’s mouth.

Dude, the only NES ball game that matters is Cyber Stadium Series: Base Wars. Epic. Robots beating the hell out of each other on the diamond. Close play at second? Screw the ump, whip out lazers and settle it like men. Or.. like.. robots. Whatever. It rocks. I also nominate it cause I own a real fancy shrinkwrapped copy. ;D.

Base Wars!
How could you leave that out of the list? Made for an entertaining twist, something baseball sorely needs to be entertaining. I can’t wait until we have real robots capable of recreating the experience!

Although Baseball Stars is probably a better game, I have to vote for Bases Loaded. I spent an entire summer playing against my grandma’s neighbor.

double post apologies, but.. ok.. Baseball Stars was really special to me as a kid as well.

@ Derek:
You may want to look into Konami’s Power Pro series on the Wii. It’s got a stupidly huge number of play modes including 2 that are pretty much baseball RPGs, so on the surface it appears anything but simple. Then you start playing and everything changes. There aren’t a lot of goofy mechanics, just simple ball with great physics. If you use the classic pad it often feels like an SNES game from some wonderful alternate reality.

Power Pros is awesome for sure. The RPG “Success” mode is just too awesome for words.

wait…. which one was Fred Savage playing in The Princess Bride? i want to vote for that one.

I never played any baseball games on the NES besides just baseball (which I found somewhat lacking in the fun department).
As far as baseball games in general go I’m quite partial to Baseball Stars 2. Insane amounts of fun. In two-player at least. 1 player is disgustingly hard.

My brother and I rarely finished a game of R.B.I. My goal wasn’t to win. It was to get into a pickle and then have him throw to a base with nobody on it, sending the ball into no mans land. Then he would throw the controller, making me the winner.
Man, I was kind of a d**k. And I’d probably do the same thing if we played today.

I’m not a big baseball fan, but I have fond memories of playing Bases Loaded with my older brother. It was a fun and well balanced game.

Bad News Baseball by Tecmo really did it for me. And who the hell was on the end of the bench after a home run?

Deepthought,
That game is Hardball (I had it for the C-64, and it was definitely an awesome game).
My fav. N.E.S. baseball game has yet to be mentioned – Little League Baseball. I played the life out of that game. I hope we see it some day on the VC.
