Ocarina of Time Remake Rumor Sounds Familiar…
Monday, March 30th, 2009 at 9:52pm by SeanCanada’s Gamefocus is claiming that one of their Japanese Nintendo buddies let it slip that Nintendo is working on a Wii remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:
Late last night, our Japanese contact over at Nintendo sent us word about something really exciting: a Wii remake of the one of the greatest N64 games ever produced: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. We were also told that an official announcement would be made around April 5, which is the North American launch of the Nintendo DSi.
Supposedly the official announcement is going to be made this coming Sunday. Although many gaming news outlets suspect this to be an early April Fools joke or a crossed wire, Nintendo has kicked this idea around before. In 2005, Iwata told Electronic Gaming Monthly that they were looking into giving some classic games a graphics overhaul for the upcoming “Revolution” console’s download service.
We are doing several experiments, including working with the original Super Mario Bros., with the new technology,” said Iwata. “The game itself and the gameplay shall be identical, but the look will be different; it’s possible that with Revolution, we may be able to see the old games with new looks.

Although this sort of remake seems like an unlikely move today, at least we know it’s something they’ve considered in the past.
Is this a Rumor, or a future WiiWare or Disc release? Let us know what you think in the comments section!

I’ve heard this one before … but I think it’s a really good idea. I’d pay for a remake of OoT in the TP engine and with Wii controls (and hopefully some kind of new extras).
It would be better if they could put Majora’s Mask on the same disc, but I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen.

I’d be willing to rebuy an Ocarina of Time remake for $30 or so. I’ve been tempted to buy the Virtual Console game, but after playing the demo on Smash Brothers the game’s graphics are pretty dated.
I think a remake would be more successful on the DS, has anyone considered them doing that? If they could port Mario 64 over they can do Zelda too.

Aah!!!! This is one of those rumors that I know is not true but I want it to be true so badly that I let myself believe it only to be disappointed
March 30th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
I hate to say it but I’ve never played OoT much less beaten it.
Ack! Please don’t kill me!
I know I would get this game if it came out because I really want to find out how good it was.
On another note, this will probably be released on disc. Considering the fact that Mario Tennis and Pikmin were re-released on disc I don’t think Nintendo would stray to far from what they’ve already done.

@cmdg
No worries man, OoT came out over TEN years ago! It’s shocking to think of now, but that game is legitimately OLD. A lot of today’s gamers were too young to enjoy it in it’s prime – although it makes me feel ancient to admit it, there are plenty of legitimate reasons to have missed out on this one.

The original source’s own update leads me to call bullshit on this one:
http://www.gamefocus.ca/?nav=new&nid=4705
“- The game would be a revamped version of the N64 game,
- The game would be available in Japan first and coming to North America sometime after Christmas,
- The game would ship with a peripheral that would have “flute capabilities”,
- Our source was pointing at some kind of DS-Wii connectivity but we did not get enough info on that matter but he did mention a DS version of “Ocarina”.”
An ocarina peripheral? No way. If they just said it would be a “New Wii Control” branded game in the TP engine, maybe, but they went too far.

@McClain142
That sounds pretty ridiculous, yeah. As far as i’m concerned, if this DOESN’T happen, Gamefocus’ credibility is ruined – because they are either reporting something that is complete BS without checking up on it, or they are leading their readers on for a multiple day April Fools burn – and that’s not cool.

OoT remake? I thought that’s what TP was

It would definitely be pretty sweet. Hopefully it would have more than just better graphics though cuz while they would improve a good bit, if there gunna do that, they should just wait and come out with it in HD or something. Also, I think I might actually like MM more than OOT (i know everyone is gunna hate me for saying that)

I agree with J_man86 that if they were going to remake OOT they should definitely wait for an HD Wii. I also like MM much more than OOT, not saying OOT was bad, but MM was really good in my opinion (almost as good as ALTTP). Maybe they could remake MM at the same time and release them together? I’d hope it would be a WiiWare release.

Bad idea.
I’m getting a bit tired of companies deciding to go back and remake games. I know that’s a double edged sword since sometimes it’s great (Resident Evil) but we’re talking about one of the best games ever, and one that is easily available on the VC.
Oh and J_man…you’re not alone. I played both OoT and MM about 2-3 years after their releases but I actually think I enjoyed MM better.

What deepthought said. Twilight Princess is already such an homage to Ocarina. OoT was a groundbreaking game, but I’ve had enough. We need a new Zelda for Wii, not this.
March 31st, 2009 at 6:13 pm
While a remake of OoT, perhaps using the TP engine, with motion controls doesn’t necessarily sound like a bad idea, I agree with Boo: the priority should be a brand-new Zelda game for the Wii, not a remake of a nearly eleven year old game which is already available for the Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and Wii.
Oh, and I also preferred MM to OoT; while OoT was a great game, it began to feel a bit repetitive and, dare I say it, even tedious more than halfway through. MM, on the other hand, utilized new gameplay mechanics wonderfully, felt fresh, and was a complete delight to play and experience.

I agree with some other commenters: let’s focus on a new Zelda. In fact, as much as I loved Wind Waker’s art style and I’m cool with the Twilight Princess engine, I’d like to see them do something entirely new. After all, Link is sort of the James Bond of video games; constantly being replaced but ultimately remaining the same character. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a truly unique incarnation of Hyrule.

I just downloaded the game on VC…
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:59 pm
I Hope They Remake It
Preferably With Better Graphics
Or Maybe Go All Out And Replace The Map As Well With A Slightly Changed Twilight Princess Map (GameCube Version)
But I Would Love It If They Came Out With It
Expecially For WiiWare
Problem Is If They Did As I Previously Stated It Would Probably Be A Disc Game
Though If It Was WiiWare And People Downloaded The Original Alreaddy
Then They Should Somehow Get A Discount
Becuase Then They’d Have To Pay Twice For The Same Game
April 6th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
I’m tired of this rumor. I would love to see a Wii remake with a complete graphical overhaul. The graphics could be even better than Twilight Princess (considering that TP was meant for the GCN) and there’s alot more space on the disc to either add new content to the game, or increase the poly count and enhance the textures with different mapping techniques. But I would also love to see a new zelda game all together come out on the wii, that pushes the system to it’s limits, or is twice as long as TP was.
