Nintendo plans posh L.A. DSi launch event, now with more excess!
Monday, March 30th, 2009 at 2:12pm by Jack
First, there was IGN’s Matt Casamassina and Nintendo’s Perrin Kaplan. But today, is the video game world’s new completely fake and made up by me power couple going to be Attack of the Show’s Kevin Periera and Nintendo den mother Cammie Dunaway?
Could be! They’re hosting a megaton DSI launch event in beautiful Los Angeles at 9PM on Saturday, April 4th. If you live in the area, check out Universal CityWalk GameStop for music by DJ Fader, I Am 8-Bit art giveaways, and interactive gaming stations. There will also be some sweet, sweet street parkour action, because Nintendo is filthy stinking rich and that’s what filthy stinking rich people do. They have street parkour action at all their posh rich person events.
The event concludes at midnight PST time, says the press release Nintendo directed our way today, at which point the DSi will officially launch and the parkour will conclude with some high kicks or something.

You know, i was there the night before the Wii was released.
It was so full and there was a great feeling all around the area.
Adam Sessler or whatever his name is was there.
Anyway…
i might go check it out.

The DSi is such a monumental waste of time. This system has been rehashed 3 times now? Why is this?

@John
new ideas, new technology
with your train of thought then what is the point of the NES then the SNES? or the point of N64 then GC? how about GB Pocket then GB Color? GBA to GBA SP?
new ideas and new technologies are always coming out so the company creates a new version of their current product, all companies do this all the time, otherwise we would have no technological advancement

John, please Google “iPod”

@ Attilio y Jack
iPods, Snes’, and N64s all represent significant updates to then existing technologies. Those updates changed gaming in a very drastic and noticeable way and are therefore not a very good comparison.
Speaking of the iPod. Do you remember the iPod Photo? Did that seem like a valuable advancement to anyone? The suckers that bought that were quickly regretting it when the video came out…
The DSi doesnt bring any “new technology” to the table whatsoever. Create an iteration of the DS that has a audio/video-out jack or displays in 720p, and then you have a new system from which you can build “technological advancement”. Instead, slap a couple silly cameras unto the chassis, make the screen a fraction wider, and create a virtual store so users can buy new shovelware… and you’ve got a Nintendo hardware update.
Being a fanboy is fine Jack, but at least have the ability to criticize Nintendo from time to time.
Im just waiting for the new Nintendo handheld so I dont blow my money on the next iPod Photo.

@ John
I Agree!

@ John:
Wha…
AHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!
HA… oh… I’m sorry. It’s…it’s just that bullshit makes me laugh so hard…
Let’s see here… significant improvements within the DSi:
-Internal memory
-SD Card compatibility
-Hot swapping and soft reset
-DLC
-Firmware updates
-Audio playback
-The two cameras
Insignificant improvements and cons:
-Removal of GBA slot
-Brighter backlight
-Bigger screens
-Better, differently shaped speakers
-Matte finish
-Other aesthetic improvements
I’d like to see your DS Phat or DS Lite do this shit!

“Being a fanboy is fine Jack, but at least have the ability to criticize Nintendo from time to time. ”
Uh, what? Seriously. How does this address the fact that the iPod is continuously reissued to the masses, with minor or even superficial updates, and still controls like 60-70% of the market? Which, incidentally, was my frakking point. A point, obviously, that you missed completely when you ran right passed it to try and get your snarky little jab in there. To elaborate further, my iPod argument wasn’t meant to ass kiss Nintendo in any way shape or form. It was to say that Nintendo knows its market, and knows that incremental changes to hardware, a la the iPod, will sell, sell sell.
Speaking of misplaced jabs…
“Speaking of the iPod. Do you remember the iPod Photo? Did that seem like a valuable advancement to anyone? The suckers that bought that were quickly regretting it when the video came out…”
Actually, iPod market share has remained rather healthy, so I’m going to have to say you are, yet again, wrong, and that those people who bought those iPods were pretty happy, at the time. And to say they suddenly became unhappy when a new piece of tech came out later on is pretty dense too, as it applies to EVERY piece of technology ever released, from telephones to laptops to game consoles. There’s ALWAYS something better coming out the next month, because gains in technology are EXPONENTIAL, not linear.
I’ll all for a good argument from time to time, but come on. Please try again.

@John
Please read what i said again, “new ideas, new technology”
first of all as Lite stated the DSi does have “new” technology built in compared to the DS and DS Lite, maybe new isn’t the correct word, how about upgraded. That technology does make the DSi run better.
second of all, since the DS was released in 2004 (or 2005 i can’t remember) technology has improved. This improved technology has allowed the DS Lite to be released which was only a smaller version of the DS. Now Nintendo gathered some new tech which the average user doesn’t notice, took some new ideas (such as DLC and cameras) and added them into a device that is roughly the same size as the DS Lite.
If you compare the 3 DS’s in detail you will see the advancement of technology between each one and the new ideas that Nintendo has decided to add to their console in order to make it more interesting and fun for the users.
Now John, if you are mad that you bought a DS then Nintendo came out with an improved version called the DS Lite and you bought that too, and finally Nintendo came out with the even better DSi and you feel like you have just been wasting your money this entire time then that is your problem. Please do not say that a console is a waste without presenting solid facts and/or reasons for thinking that.
The only 2 things that I personally dislike about the DSi is the fact that they removed the GBA slot and that the cameras aren’t the best, however I understand Nintendo’s reasons for doing both.

I’ll buy one when it hits $129.99. I hope they come out with a matte red one.

@ Attillo:
I never said anything was new, only improved upon to make the new system better, but I do agree that the advancements are something to pay attention to.
As for the party in LA, I can’t go.
*sniff sniff*
However, while I was on the way to Universal Studios Hollywood last Christmas, I spotted some Mario graffiti of a cholo’s interpretation of World 1-1. Points to anyone who spots it on the way to the party.
